Suggested Labs
The following labs will help provide the needed context and background for the Genome Center Tour video in both high school and college classrooms.
Washington University Science Outreach provides student and teacher pages online for their Modern Genetics Curriculum. Suggested labs include:
- Chapter 1, Section B: Spooling DNA (isolating DNA)
- Chapter 1, Section C: DNA structure (building a DNA model)
- Chapter 1, Section E: Shine On! (bacterial transformation)
The Dolan DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Alu Fingerprinting Lab gives students experience with isolating and amplifying an Alu site in their own DNA, using gel electrophoresis to analyze the products. CSHL also provides an Introduction for the Alu Lab.
